Leonid Gorokhov cello and Niklas Sivelov piano - 7:30pm, Saturday 19th February 2011

One of the finest cellists of his generation, Leonid Gorokhov studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire. A winner of many prizes, he is currently a professor at the Guildhall School of Music and at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theatre, Hanover, Germany.

Leonid Gorokhov is a founder member of the Hermitage String Trio, and is a frequent guest at festivals all around the world, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.

We are delighted to be welcoming him to the Ship Theatre with one of his regular partners, Swedish pianist Niklas Sivelöv, who became one of the youngest professors in Europe with his recent appointment at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen.

Niklas Sivelöv has a very wide-ranging repertoire, from Mozart to present-day Swedish composers, and is also a notable composer himself.

  • Beethoven: Cello Sonata No 5 in D, Op 102/2
  • Shostakovich: Cello Sonata in D min, Op 40
  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Fantasy on "Le Coq d'Or"
  • Rachmaninov: Cello Sonata in G min, Op 19
