Sevenoaks Young Musicians - 3 pm, Sunday 12th December 2010

Each year some outstanding talents emerge as prize winners in the Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year competition, and 2010 has been no exception. We are delighted this year to be offering recital opportunities at the Ship Theatre to pianist Gamal Khamis and violinist Florian Rago.

Gamal Khamis started playing the piano at the age of five and soon won a scholarship to study at the RCM junior department. He is currently studying at the RCM on a Masters programme and has recently been accepted onto the Concordia Foundation. He has performed a number of concertos and won prizes in several competitions. Gamal has chosen three very contrasted works for us, one Classical, one Romantic, and in the middle something relatively modern:

Haydn: Sonata in B minor Hob XVI/32
Kenneth Leighton: Six Studies: Study-Variations, Op 56
Chopin: Fantasy in F minor, Op 49

Born in Italy, Florian Rago also started playing at the age of five, and currently studies at the RCM as Regalian Scholar. He has made numerous solo appearances with orchestras, and as a recitalist in the UK and abroad. Among his prizes he has won Young Musician of the Year in Nottingham and Kingston, and he has broadcast on BBC Radio. Two virtuoso pieces will frame one of Brahms's last works:
