Chamber Music in Sevenoaks

Emma Johnson & Harpham Quartet - 27-03-2010

Emma Johnson. "England's best-loved clarinet player" (BBC Music Magazine) has a huge following, for good reason, and not just here in Kent! She is one of the few clarinettists to have established an international career as a soloist. She has performed across Europe, the USA and the Far East, as well as in Africa and Australia in venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Concertgebouw, the Louvre and the Barbican. In Britain she has achieved particular popularity- her two recent discs on the Universal label, "Voyage" and "The Mozart Album", spent many weeks at the top of the Classical Charts.

A patron of ClicSargent the childhood cancer charity (http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/), Emma likes to support a number of good causes through her concerts. She was recently the first woman to be made an honorary fellow of Pembroke College Cambridge, and in 1996 Emma was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to music.

We are delighted to be welcoming Emma to the Ship Theatre to play two wonderful quintets in which she will be joined by the young Harpham Quartet, who will also play Barber's most famous piece of music in its original guise.
