Chamber Music in Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks Young Musicians - 13-12-2009

This year's Sevenoaks Young Musician competition was of a high standard, and this concert will showcase the talents of two outstanding young violinists.

16 year old Savitri Grier has been studying at the Royal Academy of Music for the last eight years, where she won several prizes and was awarded a scholarship.

In 2008 she won First Prize in the Over-15 Recital Competition in the North London Festival of Music and Drama, and led the Barbican Youth Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis.

Savitri has played Bach and Bruch violin concertos with the Jupiter Chamber Orchestra, and with them and her cellist sister, Indira, has also performed a double concerto written by her pianist father, Francis Grier.

For her recital in the Ship theatre she will play Nocturne, by Francis Grier, and Bartok's 1st Sonata for Violin & Piano. She will be accompanied by Francis Grier.

At the age of nine, Amy Tress gained a place at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. During the next nine years she led two orchestras and won many prizes and competitions. In 2004 she gained her Diploma ABRSM and joined the National Youth Orchestra.

In 2007 Amy won scholarships to study at the RAM and at the RNCM. However she decided to study Music at Christ Church, Oxford, where she is a Joan Conway Scholar and recently won a place on the Philomusica apprenticeship scheme. She is currently leader of the Oxford University Orchestra, and last year lead the Sinfonietta.

In her recital for Sevenoaks Music Club Amy will be accompanied by Adam Crowther. They will play Beethoven's 9th Sonata for Violin & Piano, the Kreutzer, and Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy.
